School resumes, and so does the heat 

The sight of school buses traveling area roadways isn’t the only sign class is back in session for the 2019-20 academic year. A rising thermostat is another clear indication.

As summer vacation ends and students return, the temperature is on the rise. This has been a common theme in recent years, as area schools have dismissed students early because of excessive heat in four of the last five years — 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018.

A repeat could be in store for 2019, as the National Weather Service is calling for a high of 87 degrees on Tuesday with heat indexes reaching as high as 96 degrees. There also will be a 30 percent chance for ...
