Smokers lighting up too close 

KANKAKEE — Kankakee County employees may have to walk a little farther to take smoking breaks. Some are smoking too close to buildings, an official says.

On Tuesday, the county board's executive committee recommended the county enact a policy designating smoking areas farther away from entrances.

Under a 2008 state law, public places must be completely smoke-free indoors and within 15 feet from entrances, windows that open, and outside vents.
