Herscher grad taking part in D-Day events

KANKAKEE — Many have a fear of heights. Not Steven Fief, who relishes soaring in the sky.

Fief, a 1999 graduate of Herscher High School, jumps out of planes as a parachute rigger in the Army. And he likes to dive out of aircrafts on his own time as well.

This week, he is taking part in the events surrounding the 75th anniversary of D-Day, in which the Allies launched their campaign to take back Europe from Germany on June 6, 1944.
