Gas line will not go through Cobb Park

KANKAKEE — Score one for Cobb Park guardians.

The proposed replacement of the natural gas pipeline, which would have traveled through the heart of historic Cobb Park in Kankakee’s Riverview district, has been dropped by Nicor Gas/Southern Companies.

Kankakee Valley Park District Executive Director Dayna Heitz recently noted the utility company informed her the company has dropped its plans to install a new natural gas line through the park.

The company is seeking an alternative plan, but nothing has been finalized at this point.
