Valentine flowers are carefully reviewed in Miami

MIAMI (AP) - Throughout the five weeks of the partial paralyzation of government offices there was a service that was not interrupted at the Miami International Airport: the review of roses coming mostly from Colombia and Ecuador for the Day of Enamorados, in search of insects and diseases.

Inspectors from the Office of Customs and Border Protection (OAPF) continued examining branches without charge as the celebration approached.

Approximately 90% of the flowers that enter the United States every year arrive through the Miami airport. OAPF inspectors review shipments, leaf by leaf, in search of diseases that may affect local crops.
