Peter Jackson makes new documentary about the Beatles

NEW YORK (AP) - The Beatles' farewell documentary "Let It Be" will have an encore, and a reinvention.

The director of "The Lord of the Rings" Peter Jackson announced on Wednesday that he is making a new film with about 55 hours of footage never before seen filmed in 1969. The original film, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, came out in 1970, little after the Beatles disintegrated and was seen as a chronicle of the distancing of the members of the band.

In an interview with Rolling Stone months after the premiere, John Lennon recalled the "Let It Be" process as a miserable experience "set up by Paul (McCartney) for Paul."
