Children drag their sleds back uphill in mid-January at Helgeson Park in Bradley. Several inches of snow fell in the early hours of January 12, forcing residents to enjoy the first sledge conditions of the year.

Children, these are not your father's snow days. Whether the plows throw the snow aside or not, more schools are kept in session, thanks to technology.

Although students from Kankakee School District 111 were not in their buildings on Monday due to icy snow conditions, they still met with their teachers online and were technically in class.

Middle and high school students completed assignments on their school-issued Chromebooks while communicating with their teachers via email or Google Classroom.
