Kankakee Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong is defending the way the city has handled its plumbing inspection paperwork, but acknowledges the city might need to make a “clerical adjustment.”

Wells-Armstrong addressed the issue in her monthly Facebook Live town hall last week.

Earlier this month, the Daily Journal reported the city’s building inspector, Phillip Leppert, signed building permits on the line where the plumbing inspector was supposed to sign. A plumbing inspector must be a licensed plumber. Leppert is not.
