County may curb flower spending

El condado puede frenar el gasto de flores

KANKAKEE — Savings bonds for babies and flowers for hospitalized employees might be a thing of the past in many Kankakee County departments.

On Tuesday, the county board’s executive committee voted 6-1 to change its policy on spending taxpayers’ money on flowers.

The current policy allows the county to spend money on flowers for employee hospitalizations and funerals or memorials when immediate family members of county officials and employees die. Spending has been capped at $40 in such cases.
