“Homogeneous” was the winning word that carried Laura Tejero, 14, to the championship at the the Iroquois-Kankakee Regional Spelling Bee in February. But that was only the beginning.

Now, Laura is packing her bags to represent the area in the 91st Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on a trip sponsored by the Daily Journal.

Her parents, Jojo and Wilma Tejero, will join her in the capital.
